woolamai - 1999 bavaria ocean 38
Our home is sold!
Why Bavaria Ocean?
Our main criteria when looking for our dream boat was safety in offshore seas, and comfort while living aboard.
Bavaria’s have a long and reputable brand history, but most people don’t know that the “Ocean” series Centre Cockpit range are the toughest boats they built. Only a handful of these Scandinavian style cruisers were made by Bavaria for a faction of the investment, therefore delivering superb value. The Bavaria Ocean 38 is certified with Germanischer Lloyd A5 certificate for offshore sailing. The hull is strong, extra thick and kevlar reinforced in critical areas, and the keel is a deep draft made from lead. We fell in love with the centre cockpit design, where we stay dry and safely secured during even the biggest sea states. Paired with a furling main sail, there is no need to leave the cockpit for any manoeuvres or sail changes. Additionally, we have fitted out the boat with the correct safety gear to make Woolamai compliant to the ARC rally safety requirements.
Comfort on board for a crew of 2 with regular guests is a luxury on this Ocean 38. The rear cabin has a queen size bed at its widest, with easy access on both sides. The V berth is comfortable for 2 with plenty of additional storage. The boat 38 has a single head, but importantly is accessible from both the rear cabin and the saloon which is great for larger crews or guests. The shower is a separate full height shower, keeping the rest of the head dry. One of our most loved features of this boat is the rear deck space and transom steps which makes it a really comfortable boat for days at anchor.
Length: 11.75m
Beam: 3.99m
Draft: 1.95m
Why Woolamai?
Woolamai is one of the best examples available on the market for an affordable centre cockpit cruiser. She may be built over 20 years ago, but this was a time when Bavaria built tough, heavy and incredibly safe boats. On top of that, we have done a complete refit, and have maintained her to the highest levels while sailing and living on board ourselves for the last 2 years. As they say, if you want a boat that is well maintained, buy from someone who has lived on board.
The sails are in great condition, with main and Genoa new in late 2020. The rigging was renewed in late 2021. A worry free synthetic deck has been installed, as most teak decks on a boat this age will have many problems. The electrical system is brand new, and installed to the highest standard. The solar and lithium combination has been a game changer for us as we never have to enter a marina to charge the batteries. Woolamai comes with all of the safety, navigation and communication equipment you need as a live aboard, from satellite phones and trackers to AIS and EPIRBS. There is nothing you would need to add to safely cross oceans immediately. And on top of all of this, we have made Woolamai feel like a home. New comfortable mattresses, cushions, electric macerating toilet, fridge/freezer, and a completely renewed and sterile water system. Also EU VAT paid.
She is a beautiful boat, our dream boat, and ready for a new buyer to immediately continue the adventure.
How will the sale work? What does the buyer get?
Woolamai remains our dream boat, we have no plans to sell her for something different… we for personal reasons need to return to land life.
However, we do intend to have one last adventure with her while we look for the perfect buyer. She is in Aruba for hurricane season, a perfect opportunity to come and see it, and then we will sail north to the Bahamas and surrounding areas. We will be ready (but sad) to say goodbye to Woolamai starting from April of 2023.
Since we believe this is a perfect live aboard boat, we have decided to advertise early and without a broker (for now). We are offering a complete package for someone looking to upgrade, or to start this lifestyle from scratch. Our wish is to offer Woolamai with all of the equipment and gear that we have needed for our adventure – items like the spinnaker, the EPIRBs and MOB sensors, lifejackets, satellite phones and more. More importantly, our wish is to offer to spend time with the buyer to show them how Woolamai ticks… how the systems works, how to maintain her and how she sails.
We believe this is a great opportunity to kickstart your adventure, and for a seamless introduction to live aboard life, and how to handle Woolamai… something we wished we had when we began our adventure!
If you are keen but would like to discuss the timeline, cost, location or inclusions then please get in touch. We are flexible!
